Son of Spock

Clipped from the National Enquirer in the summer of 1978. Considering Adam's resemblance, it's too bad he never played a younger Spock in a flashback or time-travel story! But, I'm sure he didn't want to get typecast either, adding to his troubles as a celebrity offspring. But he could have at least been one of the actors playing Spock as he grew up rapidly in "The Search For Spock," easily.

Adam has written a book about his experiences called "My Incredibly Wonderful, Miserable Life: An Anti-Memoir." The photo above, and the one directly below, come from the official site for the book.

Thanks to these pictures, we now know what young Spock looked like a a child, during the events in the animated episode. "Yesteryear." Also, too bad they never used him in the original series! How great would that have been, had there been more seasons? A live-action version of "Yesteryear," featuring Adam as the young Spock, with Mark Lenard and Jane Wyatt reprising their roles as Sarek and Amanda, would have been awesome. Yes, there was a missed opportunity there for sure, as far as we fans were concerned. Heck, even a guest-star appearance in one of the spin-off shows as Spock's son whom we never saw before. One can dream , can't one?

Shatner: Back On Earth (Temporarily)

Clipped (or torn, really) from the pages of "Movie Star Annual" sometime in 1975. Bill's mostly-forgotten "Barbary Coast," was a rip-off of the"Wild, Wild West" idea. Interesting how Bill spent years trying to distance himself from his Trek association, only to come back to it later and make it stronger than ever. No-one escapes Star Trek once in it, Bill!

And the 70's lapels make another appearance. It's more likely that's what Marci is laughing at! What I wouldn't give for some film footage of Bill boogie-ing the night away at some of these Hollywood parties!

It's Job To Job Nowadays For 'Mr. Spock'

The headline makes it look like Leonard was having trouble making it after Trek, but the article itself shows he was working steady on different projects. Clipped from the Macon Telegraph on Aug. 17, 1973 when I was 14. Below is a small clipping gleaned from one of the TV fan magazines about the same time.

Bonus content: Below is Issue #3 of the Star Trek Poster Magazine, one of the best publications to come out in the 70's on Trek. I was fortunate enough to collect every issue, and treasure them still. I'm featuring this cover since today's post is Nimoy-centric. Why his uniform tunic is purple is a question I have no answer for.

A small clipping from 'The Enquirer" of unknown date, probably the early to mid 70's. I clipped and saved any reference to the show, no matter how small or trivial, and certainly anything with a photo, even a picture I had already. Below is a good example; a "Tomorrow" show listing in a newspaper TV guide that had Trek cast and crew as guests. This was probably also in the mid 70's.

Incredible Appeal of the Star Trek Movie

Clipped from "The Enquirer" in the middle of December, 1979. The Star Trek movie honeymoon was in full swing and the lovers don't start focusing on the other's faults until the honeymoon is over.

And the woman is Shatner's then-wife, Marcie Lafferty. She even had a small role in the movie as Illia's replacement as navigator. You can see below a clipping from a tabloid, probably "The Star," of their wedding on October 20, 1973.

Some odds and ends this time, starting off with a short 1976 writeup from the Enquirer about Nimoy playing Sherlock; not too much of a stretch there, huh?

And finally, a stupid robber makes real Trek fans look bad. What kind of Trek "bomb" was he referring to? An anti-matter device like on "Obsession"? Or maybe "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier"?
